Maye Musk is more than just a successful model and the mother of Elon Musk—she’s a survivor, a fighter, and a woman who built an extraordinary life despite overwhelming challenges.
In an exclusive interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 71-year-old model opened up about her difficult past, her journey to independence, and how she raised three incredibly successful children—Elon, Kimbal, and Tosca Musk—as a single mother.
For years, Maye endured an abusive marriage, but she found the strength to walk away—choosing an uncertain future over a life of fear. “It wasn’t easy,” she admits, “but I knew I had to leave for my children’s sake. I didn’t want them growing up in that kind of environment.”
With no financial support and three kids to raise, Maye worked multiple jobs—modeling, giving nutrition lectures, and running a dietitian practice—to keep food on the table. Despite the struggles, she made sure her children were always encouraged to explore, learn, and dream big.
Her sacrifices paid off—Elon Musk went on to revolutionize space and technology, Kimbal Musk became a successful restaurateur and philanthropist, and Tosca Musk built a thriving career as a filmmaker.
Now, Maye is sharing her story in her book, A Woman Makes a Plan, where she inspires women around the world to take control of their lives, no matter the obstacles.
