Dr Madeley Is In Richard Pick Up Honor From Proud Judy And Family

Richard Madeley joined the likes of J.R.R. Tolkien, J.K. Rowling and Rik Mayall after he received an Honorary Doctor of Letters today.

The 55-year-old television presenter was joined by his wife, Judy Finnigan, as he proudly accepted his degree from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.

Wearing the traditional floppy hat and gown, the columnist clutched his academic scroll as he posed for a photograph with his older wife.

The TV star, most famous for working with Judy on This Morning, had taken to his Twitter account days earlier to express his excitement about the ceremony.

‘Back to Lunnon tomorrow… Cambridge on Weds for an honorary degree. Get me! You’ll have to pay to speak to me from now on…Nite, all. x’ Richard tweeted last Sunday.

The event was obviously on the broadcaster’s mind as he spoke of getting a haircut for the big day.

But one thing that fans perhaps wouldn’t expect him to get was a pipe and glasses.

After arriving in Cambridge, the TV icon wrote: ‘May buy small briar pipe to make me appear more learned. Pince-nez,or rimless glasses, perhaps? And leave comb in hair for absent-minded prof look.’

Thankfully he decided against that idea and wore a smart black suit with shiny shoes and accessorised his look with a rather orange glow.

Judy, 63, stood next to her husband of 25 years looking rather pleased but failed to hit the right note in the style stakes – wearing a flared pair of stone coloured trousers, a grey top and an unflattering white jacket.

The couple’s two children, Jack and Chloe, were also present at the City’s Corn Exchange to see their father receive his degree for his contribution to entertainment, television and the media.

Chloe, 23, was surprisingly dressed down today wearing a casual black jumpsuit with a cream coloured cardigan, and was eating a small bag of sweets as she walked with her older sibling.

As well as presenting This Morning with his wife from 1998 until 2001, Richard has also taken part in solo presenting roles such as the game show, Connections, the daytime quiz show entitled Runway and a series on the world’s wildest weather, Eye of the Storm.

He also co-wrote an autobiography with his partner in 2002 called Richard and Judy: The Autobiography, and more recently he wrote the book Fathers and Sons in 2008, which charts his family history.
